Sophia was glad she could share bread with the hungry despite her own hardships. She wondered if she would receive such help if she were in a similar predicament. With that thought in mind, she helps others. She also wonders if there are people in this big city, Waste Haven, who would do the same for her. Since leaving the convent, her cynicism and despair toward the world had only deepened. Why do nuns live in seclusion, shifting their happiness onto one another and sharing it within the confines of their narrow walls? Do they even know how the real world works? Having been expelled from the convent, she couldn’t help but think this way. There’s probably a bit of shirking responsibility involved, too.

Business was busy today. I suppose I was able to get through the day because I’d baked a lot of bread yesterday (and because the bread didn’t sell). I guess running a business is all about luck… She sat at a customer table, propping her chin in her hand as she wrote in her diary, murmuring to herself under her breath. Our Sophia! Hang in there!
